
Cynthia Susan (Hines) Barrett - 57 - Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of South Charleston, Ohio departed this life Wednesday, March 9, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cyndi was born August 26th, 1953 in South Charleston, Ohio, the daughter of Donald and Rita Hines of South Charleston. Cyndi was a 1971 graduate of Southeastern High School and served her country honorably in the US Army for 3 years as a medical specialist. She worked with flight surgeons as a member of the Army Medical Corps stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. She also accompanied wounded soldiers on medical air transports to Germany for more specialized care. While working at George Washington University Hospital, Cyndi was one of the emergency personnel who cared for former President Reagan after his assassination attempt. She was honored by President Reagan for her service and mentioned in the new book "Rawhide Down: The Near Assassination of Ronald Reagan" by Del Quentin Wilber. Cyndi is survived by her four daughters, Barbara of Miami, Florida, Jennifer of Silver Spring, Maryland, Lauren of Ronkonkoma, New York, and Susan Barrett of Tallahassee, Florida. Survivors also include her mother Rita (Brooks) Hines of South Charleston, Ohio, her two sisters Barbara (Joe) Pollock of Trenton, Ohio, and Nellie (Roger) Cultice of Pitchin, Ohio; her two brothers Ken (Lois) Hines of Berea, Ohio, and Tim (Michele) Hines of South Charleston, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Donald Hines, infant brother Stephen Hines, and nephew Tony Cultice.
