Dann Wood Denny Sr., 92, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010. He was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Lancaster, Ky. and moved to this area 15 years ago from Morrison, Ill. He worked as a Project Mechanical Engineer for GE for 40 years, before retiring at age 69. During his career, he earned 14 patents. He was a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marines. Locally, he lived at Emerald Point with his wife of 64 years, Susannah, where one of his main passions was tennis. He was an active doubles player until just months before his death. In 2005, his fellow tennis players built the Dann Denny Courtside Viewing Stand in his honor, alongside the Emerald Point tennis courts.
He is survived by his wife, Susannah Denny of Punta Gorda, his daughter Geri Leonard of Richland, Wa., his son, Dann Denny Jr. of Bloomington, Ind., and four grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Emerald Point Yacht Club, 25188 Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda.
