He was born on May 30, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to John W. Potter and Theresa Kirshner Potter. He came to Naples, Florida from New York in 1978 and then to Punta Gorda, Florida in 2003. Douglas was a Fire Fighter for the City of New York for 8 years before becoming disabled while on the job. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of 50 years of Punta Gorda, Florida; his children, Douglas (Joy) Potter Jr., David G. Potter, Jeffrey J. (Eliane) Potter and Elizabeth T. Abreu all of Naples, Florida: his 3 sisters, Diane (Walter) Doroschuk , Denise Hahn and Gloria (Roy) Kozlowski all of Upper State, New York; his 2 brothers, John Potter of Pennsylvania and Michael (Terry) Potter of Naples, Florida; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation until 5:00 p.m. at kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 635 East Marion Avenue. Punta Gorda, Florida
