
Edmund "Ted" MacKinnon, 82, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away October 10, 2012. He was born May 11, 1930 in Brookline, MA to John and Minnie MacKinnon. Ted was a US Air Force veteran and was the recipient of the Occupation Medal (Japan), the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1951 and moved to Washington DC, where he spent the next 25 years as an officer with the Washington DC Police Dept. After retiring from the dept. as a Detective, he worked for the next five years with a large drug company in their Loss Prevention dept. covering seven states. Ted and his family moved to Punta Gorda in 1979. He received his Relators License and worked with Five Star Reality until he retired to care for his ailing wife full time. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and his ever present smile will dearly be missed.
He is survived by his son Michael and daughter-in-law Barbara, his cousin Robert F. Hughes, who cared for him over the last four years, nephews, William (Judy) Hughes and their four children and Skip Cunningham; niece, Grace Newman, the Norton family and other extended family and friends. He was pre deceased by his wife Norma Jean on September 30, 2007 and daughter, Debra Zieler in November of 2005.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL. The Funeral Service will follow on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev Bob Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.
