Edward Matthew Browne passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, after courageously battling a long illness for over six years. Throughout his health journey, he remained remarkably optimistic, fiercely committed to preserving both the quality and joy of life.
Edward was born on July 12, 1960, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to Edward Claude and Dorothy Celestina Browne. He was a cherished son and a protective older brother to his sister, Kathryn.
He began his education at St. Jago Primary School and St. George’s College before attending Excelsior Community College in Jamaica. In 1988, Edward immigrated to the United States, where he continued his academic journey. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University and later received his M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.
Edward began his professional career at Anderson Consulting in Connecticut. He later relocated to Houston to work in the insurance industry, and eventually moved to Florida, where he and his wife established roots in Port Charlotte in 1996. There, he became the proud Owner and Manager of Sunnydell Properties and Sunnydell Laundromat.
Edward was a devoted husband and a fiercely loving father. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vance Wright-Browne, and his three beloved daughters: Shannon Alexis, Shae Analiese, and Sydney Alaina. He also leaves behind his parents and sister. Edward was deeply proud of his daughters, and anyone who knew him knew just how much he loved sharing their accomplishments.
A committed community member, Edward believed in service. He was an active Rotarian until his diagnosis, and remained involved with the St. George’s College Alumni Association, where he helped steward the John T. Rupley Scholarship Fund— an initiative honoring a beloved mathematics teacher by supporting students in need at his alma mater.
Edward was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and generous spirit. A natural host, he loved good music, lively conversation, and a well-seasoned barbecue grill. His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July—fireworks, food, and fellowship perfectly captured his zest for life. He was an avid fan of basketball, Formula One racing, and football (soccer)—passions he joyfully passed on to his daughters.
Edward embraced life fully. He was opinionated and principled, but always compassionate and deeply invested in the lives of those he loved. He was the kind of friend who always called just to check in, the kind of father who never missed a moment to cheer his daughters on, and the kind of man whose absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
