
Frank Wotitzky, 96, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away July 4, 2013. He was born October 8, 1916 in Punta Gorda, Florida to Edward and Celia Wotitzky. He was married to his loving wife, Helen, in 1951, and they remained happily married until Helen's death in 2004. Following his graduation from Charlotte High School, Frank attended the University of Florida, earning his B.S. and B.A. degrees in 1940. He also received his LL.B from the University of Florida College of Law and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1940. In 1967 the University awarded him a J.D. degree, replacing the LL.B degree. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He saw three years of active sea duty in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific. After the war, Frank returned to Punta Gorda founding the Wotitzky Law Firm which still bears his name. He served as the Punta Gorda City Attorney from 1949 to 1952.
Throughout his life "Mr. Frank", as he was respectfully referred, played an active role in the community. Among other achievements Frank served as President of the 20th Judicial Circuit Bar Association in 1954, President of the Punta Gorda Jaycees and Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club, and as a Past Commodore of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. He was an organizational member of the Board and also served as President of the Charlotte Harbor Water Association, and served on the Cultural Center of Charlotte County Executive Committee from 1986 to 1999. He was an avid boater and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was a true gentleman whose life touched many.
Mr. Frank was predeceased in death by his parents, Edward and Celia Wotitzky and his brother, Leo, with whom he practiced law. He will be missed by his nephews and nieces and many friends.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday July 11, 2013 at the Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Mr. Frank be made to the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
