

During WW ll, Irene moved with her husband and volunteered near the bases that he was stationed at. She worked next to her Richard for 30 years at the family bakery. Elmwood Pastry Shop Inc., a Connecticut landmark. They also opened Irene’s Pastry Shop in Newington, CT. The name Irene’s was chosen to honor Irene for all of her hard work throughout the years. The bakery was later owned by their son Stephen. Irene’s daughters, Diane and Helen helped run the bakery, managing the frontend. Irene and Richard moved to Florida in 1977 with their daughter Robin to retire but quickly purchased Scoobie’s Ice Cream Shop at Fishermen’s Village and later Robbie Sues with their daughter’s Robin and Sue.
Moving to Florida, they passed on the tradition of making family pastry, donuts, breads and cakes to their son Richard, wife Caroline and Irene’s grandson, Jonathan Winalski extending the family tradition to a 4th generation.
Irene and Richard finally decided to retire. They were joined in Florida by a second daughter, Susan, and her family moving from Connecticut.
When visiting Connecticut, Irene’s first stop was always Elmwood Pastry Shop, where she was joined by family and friends to share her favorite pastries and of course a powered jelly donut, her favorite.
Her favorite challenge in life was raising her 6 children that she was very proud of. Irene was also involved different activities one was the Polish National home in Hartford, CT. Her last memory was having a Jelly donut brought to Florida by her son Richard S Winalski Jr.
Irene and Richard were married for 67 years before his passing, this would have been their 71st Anniversary.
Irene moved into Robin, Hobbs, Josh and Jocelyn’s house for her remaining years. We thank them for the loving care they showed our mom. Irene has been continuing her dream these last few years, traveling with her family to Alaska, the Bahamas, North Dakota and Utah. Irene had a wonderful place to spend her final days.
Irene will be missed by her children, Richard Winalski, Jr. (Caroline), Diane Ozycz (Richard), Stephen Winalski (Barbara), Susan Aronne Zorzo (Joseph), Helen Palazzo (John), Robin Jennings (Robert), with whom she made her home and their two children Jocelyn and Joshua. Irene also leaves her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and all of her many friends. What an incredible legacy to have in one person’s life.
Irene was pre-deceased by her sister Pearl Gordon and brother, Albert Dupont formally of Connecticut retired to Florida.
