

Jim was born in Greenock, PA on June 29, 1922. He attended a one room school house through the 8th grade in Greenock and then graduated from McKeesport High School in 1940. He was a WWII vet, serving in the European Theater as a Sergeant Technician with the Timberwolves, the 104th Infantry Division. After the war he attended Duquesne University.
Jim married Helen O'Donnell on May 13, 1943, and were 2 months shy of their 74th wedding anniversary when Helen passed away on March 9, 2017.
Jim worked in the Pittsburgh District Power and Fuel department of U.S. Steel for 40 years, before retiring from that position to move to Cape Coral, FL in 1976. He then joined Raemel Homes in Cape Coral which was owned by his brother Chuck Wunder. While in PA he coached little league baseball for many years, during which time he coached both of his sons. Jim served as an officer for the Knights of Columbus and the Turners Club and was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed a good game of pinochle and socializing with family and friends, and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan. Upon moving to Cape Coral Jim became actively involved in the community. He volunteered as an usher at St. Andrew's Catholic Church for many years., As a member of the Cape Coral VFW he led the shuffleboard league and he was, also, a member of the American Legion Club before he and Helen moved to Port Charlotte to be nearer their children.
Jim is survived by his three children and their spouses: Patti (Wunder) and Bryce Williams of Port Charlotte, Jim and Carol Wunder of Orlando and Jay and Velvet Wunder of Port Charlotte. Five grandchildren and their spouses: Justin Williams, Robyn (Williams) and Scott Birkeland, Emily (Wunder) and Jose Marti, Bethany (Wunder) and Bradley Enlow and Stephanie (Wunder) and Nicholas Stamas. Six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and nieces & nephews. Jim will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Helen, and each of his siblings: Jean Wunder Nagy, Chuck and Bob Wunder.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the "Douglas T Jacobson Residents Fund" and mailed to Douglas T Jacobson Veterans Nursing Home at 21281 Grayton Terrace, Port Charlotte, FL 33954.
The children of James G Wunder Jr. extend a deeply, heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Douglas T Jacobson Veterans Nursing Home for the excellent care and attention they gave to our father over the last two years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25 from 5pm to 7pm at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church, 24445 Rampart Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33980 on Thursday, July 26 at 11am with a committal service to follow with Monsignor James Donnelly officiating and full military honors performed by the VFW at Coral Ridge Memorial Park, 1630 SW Pine Island Rd, Cape Coral, FL 33991 where he will be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Helen.
