Kenneth Edward Jones, known affectionately as Ken or Kenny by his friends and family, passed away on March 4, 2025, in Port Charlotte, FL. Born on December 17, 1942, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Ken’s 82 years were marked by a lifetime of service, commitment, and joy that touched everyone he knew.
After graduating from high school, Ken immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country with honor and distinction for 12 years, including two tours in Vietnam. His dedication earned him the rank of Staff Sergeant, a title he carried with pride long after his military service had ended. Following his time in the Marines, Ken continued to serve his community as a Dock Technician at the US Post Office in Connecticut. For 22 years, he was a steadfast presence at the post office, ensuring that countless parcels and letters reached their destinations.
Upon his retirement in 2004, Ken and his beloved wife of 36 years, Arlene K. Jones, relocated to the sunny shores of Florida. Retirement, however, could not keep Ken idle for long. He soon began working at Ingman Marine in Port Charlotte, where his knack for repairs earned him the endearing nickname "Mr. Fix It." His colleagues at Ingman Marine became a second family to him over the 17 years he worked there, appreciating his sharp skills and thoughtful nature.
Ken's life was one of unwavering love and dedication to his family, which included his loving wife, Arlene; his daughter, Denise; his grandchild, Tyler; his brother, Dennis, along with his sister-in-law, Trudy; and his mother-in-law, Almyra Keller. Each of them benefited from Ken’s analytical mind and loving heart, which he shared generously and without reservation.
Known for being stubborn and very particular, Ken was also a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. Bowling was among his favorite hobbies, and he was a regular fixture in several leagues. His friends and fellow bowlers at Treasure Lanes in Port Charlotte held a special place in his life. Ken also enjoyed boating, cheering on his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees, and spending time with his cherished German Shepherd, reflecting his love for dogs and the open water.
Ken's life was characterized by his thoughtfulness and his loving nature, which shone through in every aspect of his life. He was the kind of man who remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and important milestones, making sure to celebrate each one with the people he cared about. His analytical mind meant he was often the go-to person for advice, and he dispensed his wisdom with a gentle kindness that was uniquely his own.
As we bid farewell to Kenneth Edward Jones, we honor a life well-lived and a legacy of love, service, and friendship that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. Ken's journey through life was a testament to the enduring power of dedication and affection, and though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created will forever be a beacon of light for those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A committal service with military honors for Kenneth will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241.
