

Dr. Lawrence Louis Midolo, 90, of Punta Gorda Florida passed away on 10/9/2024, three days prior to his 91st birthday. He was born in New Haven, CT on 10/11/1933.
Lawrence graduated from New Haven High School and attended University of Connecticut, University of Dayton, and University of Arizona. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, including a PhD from the University of Arizona.
Lawrence was an ROTC cadet in college and is a Korean War veteran. He retired from the Airforce as a captain and began his civilian service working as an engineer and ultimately Branch Chief for the Flights Dynamics Lab at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. When Lawrence retired from civilian service, he went on to teach, travel, write music and invent during his long and well-deserved retirement. Dr. Midolo was an accomplished inventor having several patents attributed to him while working for the US Government at Wright-Patterson AFB. He was an accomplished musician; playing the piano was an important part of his personal and family life.
Lawrence met his wonderful wife and best friend Elena (Mazzarella) Midolo in 1951. Elena attended Willimantic State Teachers College, now called Eastern Connecticut State University, where she studied to be a teacher. While there, she met the love of her life, Lawrence Midolo, who was studying to be an Engineer at the University of Connecticut. Lawrence and Elena married in April of 1955, just a few weeks ahead of their college graduations. They were married for 67 years, raising 3 children and enjoying 10 Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren. Elena passed away in November 2022. He missed her every single day until his death. We know they are once again united in happiness and peace. God Bless Them Always.
Lawrence was a devoted man to his wife, family, and country. His constitution was founded in trust and his life was defined by compassion, intelligence, and the desire to put others before self. He was truly the champion of his family and protector of his beloved wife Elena. He always strived to show others the best in themselves and how to live with purpose and honesty without regrets. He was our hero.
Lawrence and Elena are survived by their children and spouses Bruce & Beverly Midolo, Brian & Debra Midolo, and Mary-Ellen & Andrew Fremuth.
A visitation for Larry will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, Florida 33952. A mass of christian burial will occur Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W Charlotte Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A committal service with military honors will occur Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241.
