
Louis Francis "Lou" Wolf, 87, of Port Charlotte, FL was called home by God on November 6, 2017 at the Englewood Community Hospital. He was born February 23, 1930 to Louis and Marie Wolf in Youngstown, Ohio where he lived for many years. He was raised in a tight knit Italian family, where familial love and his Catholic faith were the foundation of his upbringing.
He graduated from Ursuline Academy in Youngstown, Ohio and attended Youngstown State.
As a 31 year Military Member, he began his career in the Navy which he joined at age 17. He spent 25 years as a Gunnery Sergeant Marine and his final years in the Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Cuban Conflict. Last year, he went on the Honor Flight out of Ft Myers to Washington, DC. He was truly honored to be a part of that military group. Lou was a devout Catholic and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Lou was honored for 65 years of dedicated membership in the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66 on October 28, 2017. He was President of his Villa in Coral Springs, FL and was a lifetime member of the Italian American Club in Youngstown, Ohio which he joined when he was young.
Lou was an avid and loyal Nascar fan and even built his own car back in Ohio. He loved his community at Heritage Oak Park, especially his time with friends at the pool and at poolside lunch on Wednesdays. Lou enjoyed volunteering during his lifetime and was active with many organizations. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was a loving father to his three children, Rose Marie Ferreri, Louis (Kimberly) Wolf and Larry Wolf. He has one surviving sister, Rose Marie Wolf of Youngstown, Ohio. He leaves many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Lorraine Ricard Wolf, step-children, Christopher (Tracie) Ricard of Fredricksburg, VA, Michael (Laura) Ricard of Alexandria, VA and Nicole (Lt Col John Woodcock) Ricard also of Alexandria, VA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernice in 2002.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm till 4:00pm on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL. A Rosary Service will be at 3:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday November 14, 2017 at the St Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear Street, Port Charlotte, FL. Burial with military honors will follow on Tuesday at 2:30 pm at the Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Road, Englewood, FL 34223.
