
February 19, 2010 at Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte, Florida.
He was born February 5, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA and after graduation he enlisted
in the Army. He served in Viet Nam from 1966-1968 where he was in special forces
and wounded twice. He was awarded his second Purple Heart and a Silver Star for
his actions. After returning to civilian life, Eric became a fireman in Findlay, Ohio
and joined the Army Reserves. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1979.
Eric enjoyed the company the company of his close friends and family. He retired
completely in 2007 from the City of North Port as a building inspector and spent a lot
of time working with veterans. He was a founding member of the Florida Military
Heritage Museum and a life member and founder of the Military Order of the Purple
Heart Chapter 759, a past president of the Military Officers Association and of the
Knights of Columbus at St. Charles C
Borromeo.
Survived by his loving wife, of 26 years Joan T. Reed; his 2 sons, Gary L. Reed
Teresa and Jeffery M. Reed Crystal ; 2 grand children, Madison L. Reed and Jackson
K. Reed. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 9: 00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at
Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte, Florida.
Military Honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery by the U.S. Army
