ESTES, Mildred Bushong. She was born in Washington, D. C. on December 2, 1927, and died October 9, 2012. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Thomas R. Estes. They moved to South venice in 1983. She was preceded in death by her mother Edna Jenkins Bushong, father William A. Bushong and sister Helen Bushong Brooks. She is also survived by her son Thomas R. Estes, Jr., his wife Ingrid McLain Estes of McLean, Virginia, her grandson Alexander McLain Estes of Arlington, Virginia and Grandaughter Katharine Jane Estes of New York City, her sister Lois Bushong Brashear of Atlanta, Georgia, her brother John Albert Bushong of Arlington, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. She taught in public schools in Arlington and Fairfax Counties for thirty years before retiring in 1980. She will be remembered by her numerous former students as a teacher who passed along her own love of learning in ways that made school fun.
