Martha Juanita Black Allison, 83, of Venice, Florida went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2015. Martha was born on November 8, 1931, in Charleston, SC, but moved to Miami as a child. She married Billy E. Allison in 1950, at the Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami. In 1962, Martha and Billy moved to Venice, FL, where she resided until her death.
Martha was a wonderful, devoted wife and mother of three. After her children were of school age, she went back to school and received her Licensed Practical Nurse certification. She later transitioned to become a Postal Service carrier where she worked until her retirement. Martha was always an avid musician; she played the French Horn in high school as well as the piano. She played piano for more than 50 years in multiple churches in Venice and Englewood and for the last 30 years, she has been the pianist at Calvary Bible Church in Venice.
For much of her adult life she sang in the choir as well. She was active in children’s ministries for many years, conducting back yard Bible clubs and teaching at church. Martha loved to travel and was able to visit Israel and several countries in Europe and the Caribbean with her family; cruises were her favorite.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy; her three children, Loraine Dasch (husband Tom), Daniel (wife Dusty), and April Duyn (husband Al); her 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She showed her love through the crocheting of a personal afghan for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Martin Marion Black III.
