
Robert J. Blasius, 80, of Punta Gorda, FL died June 24, 2009. He was born April 9, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Robert J. and Helen Blasius. He served in the US Army. Originally from Long Island, Mr. Blasius and his wife moved to Florida and after having lived in several cities on both sides of the state, settled here in Punta Gorda four years ago from Ft Lauderdale. Before retirement, he had worked for the Long Island Railroad and then became a Manager for several bowling alleys, such as the County Line Bowl and Farmingdale Lanes, both in NY and Strikes & Spares Lanes in Naples, FL. Mr. Blasius was a member of the American Legion Post 103 and had volunteered for the Deborah Hospital in Naples.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sophie Blasius of Punta Gorda, children, Karen John Stratermyer of Royal Palm Beach, FL; Robert Susan Blasius of Atlanta, GA and Deborah John Vollaro of Old Bridge, NJ; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The Visitation will be from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm, Sunday June 28, 2009 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The Funeral Service will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238.
