
Robert R. Hanson, 85, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away January 14, 2011. He was born April 5, 1926 to Charles and Ann Hanson in New York City, New York, but he spent the majority of his life in Miami, FL. As a young man, Bob earned money shrimping and lobstering at night, and he would go to school during the day. He attended aviation school in downtown Miami from the age of 15 to 16. When World War II broke out, he joined the Marines and was sent Cherry Point, NC to learn how to repair military aircraft for the war effort. He was a hard worker throughout his life, and he also had an entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, he owned and operated several successful businesses including a television repair business, an apartment complex and several coin laundries. Later on, he and his wife owned a Bar and Restaurant called the Old Cutler Inn. He started his professional career as an aircraft mechanic for National Airlines, which eventually merged with Pan Am. He worked his way up the corporate ladder and became the "Director of Production Control". The pinnacle of his career was when he won a contract with NASA to design a maintenance program for the space shuttle that used the best techniques garnered from the airline industry. Bob's true passion was fishing and boating. He also enjoyed golfing and travel. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was also a true friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Rosalee Hanson of Punta Gorda, FL; son, John Scott Hanson of Duluth, GA; daughter, Kim Frederking of Newnan, GA; four grandchildren, Carter Hanson, Zoe Hanson, Amanda Frederking and Emma Rose Frederking.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Committal graveside service will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery.
