May 15, 1944 - April 25, 2026
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Anne Winifred Brown passed away surrounded by family on Saturday April 25, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Anne will be dearly missed by many, including her husband Daniel, sons Iain and Michael, daughters-in-law Vina and Jocelyn, and grandchildren Veanne and Hannon, as well as many relatives and friends in Canada, Britain, and around the world.
Anne was born in Farnworth, UK on May 15, 1944, before moving with her family to Vancouver at a young age. She graduated from Britannia High School in 1962, and then returned to England for several years. After meeting her husband and marrying on August 27, 1966, they moved to Canada, where they lived for over fifty years in a Port Moody house overlooking Burrard Inlet, with an ever-active view that Anne never tired of watching: a mill in the first decades, paddle-boarders in more recent years, and always the bald eagles.
After her two sons were in school, Anne co-founded Port Moody Travel, and spent several decades helping others enjoy the traveling that she loved so much. Her own trips ranged across all the continents except Antarctica, and on considerably more than seven seas: one of the first was across Europe with her dear friend Karen in the sixties, and two of the last were to visit her family, with a cruise from Australia to Taiwan in Spring 2024, and a family trip to Mexico in Fall 2025. In between there were visits to Pakistan and Myanmar and all kinds of other places her friends and family weren’t entirely sure she should be visiting, but she always returned with new stories, new fridge magnets and, most importantly, yet more new friendships.
When not traveling, Anne could likely be found reading book after book, perhaps on the sofa, or perhaps on a floating pool chair, drifting around with the breeze as she finished off yet another historical mystery.
Anne died on her own terms and with dignity. Our special thanks to the staff at Fraser Health, Eagle Ridge Hospital, and McKenney Creek Hospice for support in her final days.
A Celebration of Life for Anne will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the BC Cancer foundation.
