After growing up in Copenhagen, Bjarne Christoffersen arrived in Canada aboard the Stavengerfjord from Denmark with his Mom, Dad and Brother on March 23, 1957. His Dad, Benny, passed away in 2001; Mom, Anni, in 2004; and Brother, Mogens, in 2013. Bjarne’s brother-in-law, Murray McDonald, passed away in 2000, and sister-in-law, Lena Christoffersen, in 2004. Bjarne was a loving Husband, Father, and farfar (Grandfather). Bjarne was taken to hospital by his Wife, Daughter and Son on August 19, 2024. He passed away on August 31, 2024 surrounded by his entire loving family. Bjarne unfortunately had such an aggressive form of cancer, that came on so quickly, that his family is still in disbelief. Left to mourn are his wife Pat, daughter Ashlee and wife Lorna, son Tristan and wife Abbie, and their daughter Layla – Bjarne and Pat’s precious Granddaughter (barnebarn). Also left to mourn are Bjarne’s extended family and his many friends.
Bjarne had a long career as a longshoreman with ILWU Local 500 for 43 years. He also ran his own computer business, Viking Microsystems. Bjarne retired at 62 and thoroughly enjoyed the years since. He had lots of time for his passion, playing bridge often at the Vancouver Bridge Club and Greater Vancouver Bridge Club, as well as traveling, watching the Blue Jays, going to Whitecaps games, and just spending time with his family.
His family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the ICU at Royal Columbian Hospital who showed such compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Scholarship Fund of the Danish House Society, Scandinavian Community Centre, 6540 Thomas Street in Burnaby in memory of Bjarne, who was a proud Dane.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scandinavian Community Centre on October 16th at 1pm.
