Born in Cupar, Saskatchewan on November 10, 1932, to Katie (nee Feigel) and Michael Hameluck, Ed passed away on March 4, 2026 at the age of 93.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, Gaile, sons Donald (Rebecca) and Allan (Jennifer), grandchildren Jenelle (Pierre), Heather (Zach), Melanie (Marc), Sawyer (Taryn), Wyndym (Jenn), as well as great grandchildren PJ, Ava, and Elora.
Ed grew up on a farm in Cupar with his five siblings Bill, Anne, Veronica, Roslyn, and Michael, until he left to join the RCMP at 18 years of age. After training, he was stationed in Vernon, B.C.
The next phase of his life began with a moment that became family legend: upon seeing a photograph of a young lady in a jewelry store window, he turned to his RCMP partner and declared, “I’m going to marry that girl!” They were married for 69 years.
He married Gaile in Vernon on November 12, 1956, beginning a partnership that was marked by deep affection, humour, and unwavering loyalty. Shortly after their wedding, his RCMP career took them to Kamloops, where Don was born, and later to Vancouver, where they welcomed Allan.
After retiring from the RCMP, Ed worked for the Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit, then B.C. Labour Relations. He was always ready to help others and developed loyal friendships throughout his life.
He was very proud of his career accomplishments, but his biggest sense of pride and joy was his family. He participated in his sons’ activities, visited family in Cupar, Vernon, Alberta, and visited Don and his family in Ontario. He attended almost all of his granddaughters’ activities throughout the Lower Mainland. It was often said that his shirt-buttons were about to pop off whenever he was with his family.
He will be missed at family dinners, that always included a little toast of how important his family was. Our toast is to you, Dad, and the legacy that you built with the love of your life, Mom.
Family will have a private celebration of life. In lieu of any flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
