November 29, 1931 – February 25, 2025
Surrounded by her devoted family, Janet (Jenny) Findlay passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer.
Survived by her daughter Lisa Pidhirniak (Peter), son Michael Findlay (Michelle), granddaughter Sarah Hamilton (Lorne), grandson Ryan Pidhirniak (Kelli Severson), and great-granddaughters Reagan and Quinn Pidhirniak.
Predeceased by her beloved husband James (Jim) Findlay, parents Adam and Elizabeth Welsh, siblings Bessie Handley (Ian), George Welsh (Agnes), Retta Hogg (Jimmy), Douglas Welsh, and William Douglas (Bett).
Jenny was born in Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, and lived in Kelloholm until she married Jim on April 28, 1955, at St. Conal’s Church in Kirkconnel.
In 1957, they made the brave decision to emigrate to Canada, settling first in Winnipeg where their children Lisa and Michael were born, before moving to West Vancouver in 1966 where they raised their family, and eventually retiring in Coquitlam.
Jenny was a loving wife and mother who was actively involved in her children’s schools and activities. She made many lifelong friends during their time in West Vancouver and loved hosting friends and family for Sunday dinners and wonderful parties. She had a wicked sense of humour, and many hours were spent laughing around the table with family and friends over a glass of white wine.
An avid reader, Jenny always loved a good book. She was always sure to have the latest editions of Hello! Magazine and The International Express on the kitchen table, and she read the Vancouver Sun and The Province newspapers from front to back every day, before tackling the daily crossword and word search.
Jenny was completely dedicated to her family and loved hearing every detail about their daily lives. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and was always sure to have a small treat, coin, or token for them on every visit.
The lives of her family and friends will be forever changed by her departure, but peace is found knowing that Jenny is reunited with her one true love, Jim.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Crossroads Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Crossroads Hospice Society and/or the BC Cancer Foundation. And if you are so inclined, please raise a glass of pinot gris in a toast to Jenny and her 93 years of life, full of endless love and laughter.
