It is with profound, deep sadness that I announce the passing of my amazing and beloved father, Leo, on October 16, 2022.
He was predeceased only 10 short months ago by his soul mate of 54 years, Heather. He is survived by his only child and devoted daughter, Lana and grand pugs Chunky Chip and Daisy Mae.
Leo went through life with a positive attitude and great sense of humour and a love of God. He loved his wife, daughter and animals and loved nothing more than taking care of and protecting them all. He was always willing to help people anytime and anywhere. When prompted to share one of his stories that is when he would shine and tell it with such theatrics that it would be requested again and again at different parties and events! And on the road, he could be heard on the radio, he loved to talk! He could talk to anyone about anything and this is why he was able to make friends everywhere. One of his best traits was that he saw the best in everyone, which the odd time would get him burned but he never lost faith in people.
Leo took pride in his work and could always be counted on to get the job done. The load would get there…” rain, sleet or snow…he’d go!! He caught the trucking bug early in his teens when his older brother Ron taught him how to drive. Starting in 1959 he started trucking from Ontario to BC and across the northern U.S. He worked for O’Connor Transport and then Canadian Auto Carriers, was partner and President of Langis Transport, and then spent the majority of his career as an Owner Operator with Highland Transport for over 31 years. He’d tell people that the happiest time in his work life was starting his Tractor service in 2018 with daughter Lana.
He was tenacious and strong which showed in 2013, at the age of 70, when he endured a spinal cord injury that put him in wheelchair for a year and a half. He fought his way back from that to walk again and get back in his truck. A diagnosis of prostate cancer and then open-heart surgery still couldn’t keep him down, he kept on driving. It was only losing his beloved soul mate Heather that finally slowed him, it was hard to live without her.
I would like to thank personally his oncologist, Dr. Zulfiqar, for his kindness and respect of my Dad’s wishes, it is appreciated more than you know. Also, to his nurses, Ara and Colin, for taking great care of him in his last days. Bal and Bhupinder, thanks for showing up and paying your respects. Mike and Jill, you guys are my tribe and Dad loved you guys so much, thanks for being there too. Jonathan and Tony and families, we are family and Dad loved you guys! Cousin Denise and Uncle Ron and Aunt Judy, thanks for always being there and for your support. Cousin Jacqueline thank you for the kind words for my Dad. Thanks to our friend and neighbor Harry for helping out these last few weeks and through the years too. And to all those that have reached out to me in the last few days, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I’ll love and miss you forever Dad!
At Leo’s request there will be no funeral but there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Please contact Lana by text 778.840.7619 or email [email protected] to be put on the list.
