Peter Clarence Beverley Andrade, 75, died peacefully on Saturday February 3 at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. in the company of his wife of 51 years, Joan (Beaumont) Andrade; and his children Philip, Maydianne and Stewart.
In addition to his wife and children, Peter will be missed by his brother John Andrade and wife Veronica; his children’s spouses Dawn Andrade, Andrew Mason and Kaidra Mitchell, his 8 grandchildren (Jordan, Marcus, Cassandra, Darius, Lily, Carter, Jensen and Glenn), his nephews (Mark, Kevin and Darren), his wife’s family (the Beaumonts), and many friends in Canada, the US, and Jamaica.
Peter was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to Clarence and Maggie Andrade (now deceased). He was ‘head boy’ at his high school, Wolmers, and an enthusiastic athlete (long-jump, hurdles, and tennis team captain). He met and married Joan in Kingston. He immediately became one of the extended Beaumont family; everyone loved ‘Uncle Peter’. Their three children were born in Kingston and Mandeville, Jamaica.
Peter and Joan immigrated to Canada with their family in 1973 and settled in Burnaby, BC. Peter then began a thirty-nine year career in Career and Community Education at the Vancouver School Board. He enjoyed his work immensely, and made many good friends there with whom he kept in touch. Peter eventually retired as a Manager at the age of 70. For decades, Peter continued his love of sports through a weekly tennis match with his friend John, and his love of competition through regular bridge nights with John, Alberta, Ernie, Linda, Merilyn and Steen. After moving to Port Coquitlam, Peter enjoyed lively banter and a good cup of coffee every Saturday morning with his close friend Vern. In recent years he valued reconnecting with his friends and schoolmates from Jamaica, particularly those from Spanish town and Wolmers.
Although Peter experienced many health challenges after retirement, he and Joan treasured experiences with their friends and family and seeing their grandchildren grow. A recent cruise through the Panama Canal with John and Veronica and close family friend Lydia Creary fulfilled a long held desire to see South America.
“He was a man, take him for all in all. I shall not look upon his like again” (Shakespeare)
