Conklin Forks, NY: "God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be; He wrapped his arms around you and whispered, "Come live with me!" For I say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:23
Alan L. Finney was born on August 27, 1940 and entered into his heavenly home on November 1, 2013. He was the son of Alva and Fayetta Finney. Alan grew up with his three siblings: Norma VanHart, Wilma Hanyon, and Donald Finney. They added to the love of his family when Norma married Harold, Wilma married Walter, and Donald married Joan. He met the love of his life, Della C. Davis, on a blind date on December 27, 1968. They had a swift courtship; celebrated their marriage on August 23, 1969. In their 44 years of marriage, he was blessed with becoming a father to four dynamically interesting children: Carrie F. Shore, David A. Finney, Elaine H. Schneider and Zachary C. Finney, a father-in-law to a diverse group of characters: Joseph Shore, Amanda Finney and Matthew Schneider, and a grandfather to an energetic, creative crew: Joshua, Norah, Emma and Warren. He was honored and thankful for his ability to be "Uncle Al or Alan" to his many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Also, he was able to be "Dad" Finney to Richard, Nina, Shannon, Nicholas, Emily H. Finney, Aaron Mitra, April Youngs, Erica McCagg and Jen O'Brien. "Dad" Finney extended his love of family, faith, and hope to his congregations at Brookvale and Franklin Forks United Methodist Churches over his 30+ years of ministry. He was thankful and blessed with many friendships, especially Marion Reeser and Richard Heinrich. He always wanted those that he counseled, parented and befriended to know their own worth in this world, embrace it and look forward to celebrating in their heavenly home. The family wishes to thank the healthcare team that helped Alan over all the years, especially Dr. Shady, Dr. Khan, and Dr. Steinmetz. We are grateful to the Lourdes Hospice team for their care and love. He has gone before us to prepare God for what will be coming. May we celebrate in our fondest and most humorous memories of "Dad" Finney, Pastor Alan L. Finney, or ALF; however you may have known him! Please come and share our love at: Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY on Friday, November 15, 5-8 PM. The Memorial Service will be at Franklin Forks UMC (Franklin Forks, PA) on November 16, 11 AM with a luncheon to follow at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Franklin Forks United Methodist Church Restoration Fund: 3865 Silver Creek Road, PO Box 318, Montrose, PA 18801.
