

Gordon James McCree, Sr., 79, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Ruth (Oddy) McCree; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward T. and Florence Edwards; brother-in-law, William Edwards; and nephew, Michael Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara; his daughter, Tiffany Brady (Timothy Alger); his son, Gordon McCree, Jr.; sister, Dianne (John) Kube; brothers-in-law, Edward (Barbara) Edwards, Richard (Jennifer) Edwards, James (Linda) Edwards; sister-in-law, Theresa Ann (Lawrence) Letzelter; and grandson, Maverick Brady. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Gordon was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 20, 1946. He moved to Cambridge, MA in 1948. There he attended Longfellow Elementary School and Burlington High School in Burlington, MA. He moved to Long Island in 1962 where he attended and graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in 1964. While is high school, Gordon was a proud recipient of the Eagle Scout Award. After high school, Gordon attended Suffolk County Community College for business administration until 1966. After that he attended the Suffolk County Fire Training Center, taking a brief hiatus to to marry his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Edwards on July 6, 1968.
Gordon became actively involved with the Melville Fire Department. He considered these years the best times of his life, as he moved through the ranks from lieutenant to captain, assistant chief, and eventually chief. His commitment extended beyond firefighting as he also dedicated time to become an EMT. Gordon treasured the camaraderie within the department and considered it an honor and privilege to serve alongside his fellow firefighters.
Gordon worked as an electrician, and on May 1, 1973 he was initiated into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In 1977, Gordon and Barbara moved to Pennsylvania where they started a family. Since 1987 the family has resided in Binghamton, where Gordon worked as a master electrician. He retired LeChase construction after 52 years in the industry.
Though he did not enjoy games or hobbies, Gordon and Barbara loved to travel. They especially enjoyed cruises aboard Royal Caribbean, where they could explore beautiful destinations. They also liked to dine at their favorite local restaurants, including Cacciatore's, Remlik's, and Cortese.
The McCree family would like to thank the amazing staff at United Health Services, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Broome County Emergency Services for all of their care and assistance over the years.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Gordon on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY 13901. On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the family will host a celebration of Gordon's life at McGirk's Irish Pub in their Blarney Room, 1 Kattelville Rd., Binghamton, NY 13901. Those wishing to attend may stop in anytime between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
