

Dr. Harry H. Difenderfer Jr. of Binghamton, born June 6, 1925, graduated Scranton Central and entered the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Corpsman on the U.S.S. Boston serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors and VFW Post 478. After the war he graduated from the University of Scranton, then Temple University Dental College. He was awarded the prestigious Medal of Excellence for Dentistry Omicron Kappa Upsilon. After graduation Harry, Betty and his children moved to St. Johnsville, NY to open his first practice. He made many lasting friendships who became family. In 1957 we moved to Hillcrest, NY and it became our home. Our neighbors are the best. Harry was elected President of the St. Johnsville and Hillcrest Rotary. Later he was elected President of the Broome County Dental Society. He was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He married Betty Hutchinson in 1947 before he was accepted to Dental School. He always said Betty was the love of his life. Also surviving are his children, John and Charmaine, Barbara, Irene and Jim, and Harry Joe and Allison, plus six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He cherished his entire family and will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest. Burial will follow in the Chenango Valley Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the James V. DeMarco and Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY 13901 on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM. If you wish, a donation may be made in His memory to the Fenton Free Library or Catherine's Cupboard in Hillcrest will benefit all.
