Helga G. Kunow

Helga (Grosse) Kunow, age 93, of Binghamton NY, a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother went home to the Lord on March 17, 2024 surrounded by her family at Mercy House. She was the daughter of Friedrich E. and Else M. (Meyer) Grosse. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Aaron William (Bill); two sons, Donald and Kenneth Kunow; brother Walter (Barbara) Grosse; brother in-law Gilbert (Grace) Kunow; and sister in-law Evelyn Baird.

She is survived by her children Lynn (Ed) Weeks, Wayne (Jeanette) Kunow, Keith (Lori) Kunow; grandchildren Jennifer (Dave) McGohan, Stephanie (Jon) Schloss, Brittany (Brendan) Synan, Ashley (James) Kugel, Jesse Kunow (Payton), Zachary Kunow (Hannah), Abigail (Zachary) Willis, Derek Kunow (Makayla), Christopher Kunow; great grandchildren Noah McGohan, Madeline Kugel, Declan Synan, Kennedie Schloss; brother Fred (Karen) Grosse; and nieces, nephews and their families.

Helga resided on Long Island where she raised her children. She worked as a Labor and Delivery Room Registered Nurse (RN) for over 20 years at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY. Upon retirement Helga and husband, Bill moved to Binghamton, NY. Helga was always hardworking and dedicated in everything she did including in her retirement where she volunteered in several community organizations. One of them, The Floating Hospital in New York City, where she was affectionately known as “The Coat Lady” leading coat drives for approximately 10 years. Helga was also passionate about parish nursing which she did for many years with Christ the King Lutheran Church in Vestal NY.

Calling hours will be on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at New Venture Christian Church 1980 Front Street, Binghamton NY. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm. A meal will be served after the service.
