Judy Peterson passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, last Thursday on a bright sunny day. She is survived by Robert, her husband and best friend of more than 50 years. She was Mom to two sons, Todd and Scott. Todd and his wife, Valerie, and their boys Nicholas, Erik and James live in Allendale, NJ. Scott and his wife, Virginia, and their sons Tucker, Charlie Carr and Oliver live in Alamo, CA. Her sister, Charleen, and brother-in-law Stephen George reside in Burlington, NJ. Judy took great pride in her six grandsons and always talked of their varied interests and accomplishments with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Judy was born in East Orange, NJ and lived in Roseland and Livingston, NJ during her childhood. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1958, and went on to earn a BA in Elementary Education with a certificate in Special Education from Newark State Teachers College in 1962. Judy and Bob were married on June 16, 1962, and moved to Richland, Washington where she taught a class of special education children – a true testament to the kindness and love for children that was in her heart. Early in their marriage, Judy and Bob also lived in Morrison, Illinois, and Horseheads, New York where she continued teaching special education children. After several years at home to start her own family, she volunteered her skills in the gift shops at Arnot-Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, NY, and later at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY, after the family moved to Chenango Bridge in 1971. Through the years Judy taught in the Chenango Bridge Elementary School as a substitute teacher and retired as a teacher in the Chenango Bridge (NY) Nursery School. Judy was a member of the Kappa Epsilon Sorority, the Junior League of Binghamton, NY (member and sustainer), the Garden Club of Chenango Bridge, NY and the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Mark’s Church. She also had a small business in her home that incorporated and displayed many of her interests. In addition to her love of teaching and spending time with family and friends, Judy’s passions and interests included painting and drawing, choral singing, flower arranging, sewing, calligraphy, greeting card making, knitting, and flower gardening. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 728 River Road, Chenango Bridge, NY on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in the undercroft of the church. Committal will be at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ on Saturday April 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
