Barbara was born in Queens in 1949 and spent her childhood moving around as the daughter in a Navy family. After returning to Queens, she attended college, earning her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. She eventually settled in East Setauket, where she raised her daughter and later found love with her future husband, Joseph Santangelo. She spent over three decades teaching art in the Longwood School District - a career she was passionate about. Shortly before retirement, she moved to the Ranches community in Port Jeff Station, where she spent several years on the board and was well-loved presence over the years. She was incredibly generous with her time and friendship to all she knew.
In her prime, she had many hobbies including bowling, skiing, calligraphy and art. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Aruba several times a year. But mostly, she loved being a mother and grandmother and spending time with her family as much as possible.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Vicki, son-in-law Steve, her grandsons Charlie and Sam and sister Pat as well as the many people who knew and loved her over her lifetime. Her husband passed before her in 2019.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Hwy, Port Jefferson Station, New York 11776.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.obdavisportjefferson.com for the Santangelo family.
