Bible belonging to Naomi Geiger ( Ernie’s Mom, my Godmother). Ernie gave me his Mother’s Bible in 2013.

Ernest was born in Springfield Gardens  Queens.He then moved next to us in Centereach.As a young boy he liked to read and had all the Classic Magazines.He liked to fix and build things. Because of his 
Interests in building, he created a machine that is used in today’s hospital laboratories. He was very generous,and loved cats and took care of all the feral cats in the neighborhood together along with Denise. He will be missed, we all loved him.

Denise, I was very sad to hear of Ernie’s passing ! He was a wonderful man that unfortunately I didn’t get to see as often as I hoped. Ernie I wish you God Speed to the adventures that await you! Denise, if you ever find yourself in AZ. Please don’t hesitate to call! We would love to hear from you and see you! You are always welcome hear!

Ernie hired me 15 years ago at Mather Lab. I remember that day like yesterday and accepted the position mostly because I felt and knew he was someone I would want to work with. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Heartfelt condolences to Denise, his loving wife, and family. Love, Lynn Mitchell.

We are in shock with this news of Ernie.  Denise I am so sorry.  There are so many memories of us growing up and our families getting together for holidays or special occasions.  We also remember our trip to Aruba together.  He was a great cousin and will be missed.  Until we meet again Ernie, take care of everyone up there.  Love you your cousin Joanne.

I am heartbroken over Ernie’s unexpected death. Ernie and Denise became close friends of mine after marrying his best friend Richard. The four of us spent many years together celebrating New  Years.  I will always remember toasting the holiday eating herring and drinking a single malt  at the stroke of 12.
When my husband was in the ICU Ernie was given permission to speak to the doctor on call making sure everything was being done for him. Since Richard’s demise I know Ernie missed his dear friend. It would be a comfort to me if I knew  they were together again.

My time at LIJ was made better with Ernie. The great advice. What humor! You will be deeply missed by all!

Friend and Neighbor

For more than forty-seven years the Geigers have been our beloved neighbors and friends. Both Denise and Ernie offered invaluable help regarding health, house and home.

While there are many examples that come to mind, one such case is especially noteworthy.

Lyuda Nasteka cared for Joan’s mother and my (Dwight) mother for eleven years. When my mother passed away in 2009, Lyuda, at my mother’s request, moved into an apartment in our house.  While waiting for her citizen papers to be finalized, she  continued to care for homes and people.

Ernie and Denise first befriended Lyuda when she cared for Oma - Joan’s mother. Among other things, they shared a love of cats. 

In September of 2018, Ernie and Denise learned that Lyuda had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They knew Lyuda had no health insurance. 

Ernie, with Denise’s hearty approval, offered Lyuda any financial support that she may need. 

For Lyuda, Joan and me - indeed, anyone - this represented a fantastic gesture of kindness, love and humanity. Ernie and Denise did that. We will never forget.

Hey cuz! This is a really big shock for all of us on this end! I have so many memories of us growing up. Holiday dinners, barbecues at your mom and dads house and at my parents home. Aunt Helen and Uncle Ben were your godparents and they kept us all in line! Lol  Well I believe everyone welcomed you with open arms. Give my mom and dad a hug from me! So sorry to hear of this. Ernie was a great role model and mentor. I am forever grateful for the friendship, laughter, stories, support and tools he shared that I still reference in my career and personal life today. Truly one of a kind. Denise, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I will truly miss my friend.
