Joan D. Schemp

Joan D. Schemp passed on April 3, 2026, at the age of 89. Born November 1, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Joan lived in Port Jefferson Station, New York. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and devotion to her family.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Leo C. Schemp. She was a loving and dedicated mother to Karen (Christopher) Starin and Brian (Heidi) Schemp. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in being a cherished grandmother to Chris (Kendra) and Matthew, and a devoted great-grandmother to Noah and Michael.

She is also survived by her loving sister, Jackie.

Joan had a vibrant spirit and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. She loved dancing and attending Broadway plays, and she especially treasured time spent with her family. Whether gathered around the table or sharing laughter together, Joan found happiness in togetherness. She also enjoyed a good glass of wine—particularly when paired with her favorite meatloaf made by Chris.

Joan will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776, US, on April 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral mass will take place on April 10, 2026 at St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 2010 Princeton Blvd., Calverton, NY 11933.
