Born on August 4, 1933, in San Giorgio, Italy, Nunzio carried with him the values of family, faith, and hard work throughout his remarkable life. In his early twenties, with courage and determination, he left his beloved Italy and immigrated to the Bronx in pursuit of a better future. There, he learned English, built a new life from the ground up, and proudly became an American citizen — an accomplishment that meant so much to him.
While living in the Bronx, Nunzio met the love of his life, Janet. They shared 59 devoted years of marriage until her passing. Together they eventually moved to Long Island, where they built a warm and loving home and raised their family.
Nunzio was the beloved husband of the late Janet; loving father of Kathryn Dawson (Robert), Alisa Burns (Patrick), and the late Barbara-Ann Scappaticcio; and adored grandfather of Ryan and Alison Dawson and Sofia and Amanda Burns.
Family was the center of Nunzio’s world. He loved and adored them beyond measure — they were his absolute everything. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren, whose lives were forever enriched by his steady presence, gentle guidance, and unconditional love.
A true homebody at heart, Nunzio found peace and happiness tending to his garden. He lovingly grew vegetables and cultivated beautiful flowers, taking pride in every bloom. With a tender and devoted heart, he would often create bouquets from his floral garden to bring to the cemetery for his beloved daughter, Barbara-Ann — a quiet testament to his enduring love.
Nunzio will be remembered for his strength, devotion, humility, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives of those he cherished most.
A visitation for Nunzio will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Margaret of Scotland RC Church, 81 College Road, Selden, NY 11784. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3442 Route 112, Coram, NY 11727.
