Thomas Patrick O'Sullivan, age 72, of Centereach, New York passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024. Thomas, Tom, O, Mr. O, or Grampy was born in Queens, NY on the 25th of June, 1951. Beloved father of Janine (Danny) Dost, and Kathleen Nadler. Adored Grampy to Daniel, Brittany, Peyton, Brooke, Cole, and Zoe. Beloved brother to Michael and Christine and the "fun" uncle to his nephews John, Danny, and Neil. Thomas is predeceased by his parents and his nephew James "Jimmy".
Thomas was a busy body, his hands always engrossed in a project. He was a talented woodworker, and made a career in carpentry for much of his adult life. Tom was also an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing on property upstate, near Downsville, NY.
Thomas was the "cool" dad on the block. While his children were growing up, all the neighborhood kids would pile on over, where they felt right at home under Mr. O's watch. Tom was caring, giving, had a big heart, and that heart of his was compelled to take care of his progenies. He was the never swaying rock of his family. Tom was a bit of a story teller, regaling anyone who would listen with tales "from his day", and they would always listen, enraptured by his fables and entertained to no end. Nothing came paramount to Tom's family, though; his grandkids were his LIFE. "Grampy" was involved in everything he could be. From putting the grandkids on the school bus in the morning, to concerts and sporting events, Tom wouldn't miss it for the world. He firmly believed in family taking care of each other, a responsibility he ingrained in his daughters, that they proudly took up once Tom's health became poor. Tom's love of Christmas was infectious, and sustained him in his final days, as he bravely fought to stay by his family's side. If you are to have gained any knowledge from knowing Tom, it would be the ability to find the silver lining, a talent Tom embodied until his passing. Thomas is remembered fondly by his family and friends, as a Dad, Grampy, Uncle, friend, and most importantly, perhaps, a role model.
If you believe in a higher power, as Thomas did, it might be more of a coincidence that he passed on his daughter Kathleen's birthday this year. Similarly, it might be more than fate that Tom and his son-in-law, Danny, shared a birthday, same day, different years. Some sort of cosmic intervention, perhaps, some sort of "fate" that they were all on the right track. It might be that, as he helped bring her into this world, Kathleen would help escort him from his, as a guardian, of sorts. And it could be why Danny and Tom got on like a house on fire; Tom has now physically departed from his loved ones, but he taught many life lessons in his years knowing Danny, lessons Danny will now utilize to comfort his family during this difficult time.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.
