Thomas Joseph Pendergast, 75 of Mt. Sinai died after a brief battle with pneumonia. Beloved son of Marie Blankenship (Dunn) and Thomas G. Pendergast. Tom was born in Queens. After moving out to attend Wharton Memorial Residential for handicapped children (now MaryHaven) in 1953, he lived the rest of his life in Mt. Sinai. Developmentally delayed since birth Tom was a longtime client of over 45 years with The Association for Habilitation and Residential Care. For many years, Tom served as an usher at the children’s Mass at St Charles Chapel in Port Jefferson. Tom was an avid bowler and participated in the Town of Brookhaven special needs bowling program for over 30 years. He is survived by his stepfather, Sam Blankenship, brother, Christopher Pendergast, sister in law Christine Pendergast, niece Melissa Pendergast – Scriven and husband Dr. Richard Scriven, nephew Christopher “Buddy” Pendergast, grandnephew Patrick Scali, Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Bob along with numerous cousins. Tom was loved for his joyous spirit and affectionate nature.
