Evelyn Schoener, 78, of Port Lavaca passed away September 6, 2013. She was born May 20, 1935 in Karnes City, Texas to the late Paul and Clara Seeger Seiler. Evelyn married her sweetheart, Albert Schoener on June 27, 1954. Evelyn was a homemaker and her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. Evelyn was a bit shy and quiet, but the most loving, caring, kind and selfless person anyone ever met. She loved her husband of 59 years, Sonny, more than anything else in the world. Evelyn loved to go dancing (polka & waltz, her favorite) and she especially loved to follow the Bobby Jones Band. They belonged to many dance clubs and traveled the area (with pot-luck food in hand) to make sure they did not miss an event. They also spent a lot of time socializing with friends and playing dominoes. Evelyn was a great cook and enjoyed her time preparing all the fresh fish and oysters brought in by Sonny on a regular basis. After Sonny’s retirement, they were always on the go – whether it was dancing or just visiting with friends and no more cooking at home. Eating out was time to go visit and socialize – they could be found on a regular basis at the Hospital Cafeteria or at the Senior Citizen’s Center, where Evelyn loved to play Skipbo. Evelyn loved music - Elvis Presley and Grand Ole Opry. Evelyn was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Sons of Hermann in Dacosta.
A most happy memory for Evelyn was their 50th wedding anniversary dinner and dance - she said she had the “time of her life!” Evelyn & Sonny were such a happy and content couple, and were just enjoying life to the fullest.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny and Carl Kallies of Deer Park; sons, Danny Schoener and Sohae Clancy of Spring, Randy and Sharon Schoener of Sioux City, Iowa; sister, Ione Casey of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Brandon, Jessica, Joseph, Kimberly, Jacqueline and Carl III and great-grandchild, Carter and many nieces and nephews.
She shortly preceded her husband of 59 years in death, Albert (Sonny) Schoener, Jr. ; twin daughters Sharon Ann and Susan Ann Schoener; parents and brothers, M.C. Seiler, Wilbert (Shorty) Seiler and Billy Seiler.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Zellmer officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
