

Guadalupe "Mike" Gomez, Jr., 61, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother left this world Sunday, October 25, 2015 to continue his new journey in heaven. He was born May 25, 1954 in Port Lavaca to his parents, Guadalupe and Celina Gomez who have preceded him in death.
Mike is survived by his wife, Alice Gomez; son, Mike Gomez and wife, Amanda; daughter, Sheila Gomez; 3 grandchildren, Audrey, Mylee, and Arian Gomez; sister, Sally and her husband, Baldemar (BG) Garza, Jr.; brother, Luis Gomez and his wife Linda; and a host of extended family and friends.
Mike lived and worked his entire life in Port Lavaca, Texas. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1974. He worked for Union Carbide (Brown and Root) for 35 years. He married Alice, his high school sweetheart, they were married 43 years. She remembers how special he always made her feel. They had two beautiful children, Mike Lee and Sheila, these two were the apple of his eye. Sheila remembers their special signal of a scratch on the nose that directed Mike to buy her lottery tickets. Mike Lee had a special "father son " bond, that we all hope to have with our fathers. They could talk about anything. Mike Lee remembers his father as his role model. Mike adored his daughter in law, Amanda. They forged a special bond from day one. Mike's pride and joy were his three grandchildren. He was their number one fan and attended almost all their events. They remember his special treats of frozen pickle poppers.
Mike will be remembered for his big personality, heart and smile. He left a part of himself in all who loved him. His life was dedicated to his family, in making forever memories and living life to it's fullest. He was a friend to all and he always gave second chances and saw the best in every person he met.
Mike Gomez, you did good in this life and you showed us how to be better people. We are all blessed to have had known and loved you. Goodbye for now, until we meet again.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 3:00 pm at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca at which time all funeral services will conclude.
Afterwards the family will gather at Bauer Exhibit Building Calhoun County Fair Grounds 186 County Rd 101 Port Lavaca, TX for a meal.
