Ida Mae (Tiney) Browning, age 91, passed away April 8, 2019. She was born June 28, 1927 in Port Lavaca to the late Lee and Mary Bimingham. She was an executive secretary and was also the supervisor of the accounting dept. at Bauer Dredging and left to take care of her ailing mother. She was an executive secretary at First State Bank and Gary Aircraft. She met B.B. Browning and they married in 1964 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Tiney won the distinction of Mother of the Year from the Texas Governor Ann Richards.
Tiney loved Port Lavaca and was on the city council 10 years to become Mayor of Port Lavaca for 10 years. She just resigned from the City Planning Commission last month when her Alzheimers Disease got worse. She was also on the Senior Citizen’s Board of Directors for Calhoun County, was a life time member of the Fair Association, member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 44 years, and she was a Boy Scout Den Mother and on the Board of Directors of the Sunlight Girls Club.
Tiney leaves behind her husband, BB Browning; daughter, Tanya Lenise Browning of Port Lavaca; son, Bryan Alan Browning (wife Barbara) of Portland; 9 grandchildren (2 of which she took part in raising); 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Roemer, Leslie, and Dempsey Birmingham and sister, Lorraine Matulik.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers are: Earl Leonard, Keelin Stringo, Tyrone Harris, Mark Daigle, Sheriff Bobbie Vickery, and Johnny Krause.
Honorary Pallbearers are her sisters of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the employees of the City of Port Lavaca.
