Jimmy Garner Sr., 84, of Port Lavaca passed away surrounded by his family and friends on April 10, 2018. He was born May 2, 1933 in Port Lavaca to John Garner Sr. and Betty Calhoun Garner. Jimmy was retired from Alcoa after 32 years of service and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He loved going to Vegas and watching the Astro’s . His passion for baseball was so strong that he coached Little League for 8 years. He was a tough Coach but everyone on his team respected him.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Tomlinson and husband Duke; son, Jimmy “Bubba” Garner Jr.; sister, Marsha Nichols Warren; grandchildren, Lindsey Sutton, Farleigh Sutton, Annette Garner, Jessica Hope and Robyn Tomlinson; great-grandchildren, Trace Evans, Jayde Rouse, Blake Rouse, Ashton Morton, Jackson Hope, Levi Burke, Eli Burke and 2 baby boys on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Starling Garner; parents; sisters, Katherine Johnson, Peggy Griggs, Judy Garner, Nancy Garner and brothers, John Garner “Sonny” Jr., Bobby Garner and Gene Garner.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, April 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca with Pastor Danielle Knapp officiating. Burial with military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Veterans Joint Honor Guard will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sandy, Johnny, JoDee and Danny Johnson, Dale Garner, Tracy Blake and Justin Burke.
The family would like to that all the staff at Trinity Shores and Harbor Hospice for their love and support.
