Michael Edwin Gresham

Michael Edwin Gresham passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015. He was born June 2, 1953 to the late Edwin and Nedra Gresham. Mike graduated from Woodway High School in the Waco area. He graduated from Howard Payne University and later from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

Mike was a dearly loved senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca for over 12 years. Prior he served as pastor at Baptist churches in Schulenburg, Bellmead, Electra, Holliday, Jean and Mother Neff.

He is survived by his loving wife, Glynda Decker Gresham; and daughter, Tara Gresham. He is also survived by his two brothers, Pat and Kim Gresham.

Mike loved the Lord and enjoyed serving his Lord as a pastor. He encouraged his congregation and all that he met to know Christ and have a deeper relationship with his Savior. He had a heart for children and was committed to telling as many as would come and attend Vacation Bible School about the saving knowledge of Christ.

Mike had become an avid runner and he greatly enjoyed fishing with friends and had taken to fishing from a kayak in the local bays.

Mike’s last day in the pulpit he spoke on topics dear to his heart that men cannot be successful without God leading them and that evening he spoke from Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ”.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, at the First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca Family Life Center. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Tolar and Pastor Mark Hoover will officiate. Dr. Tolar has over 40 years of teaching at Baylor and then Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Mark Hoover was a youth/music pastor with Mike Gresham and now is senior pastor at The Journey Church in Killeen, Texas.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca’s renovation project of the sanctuary or FBC in Victoria’s Youth Mission Trip planned for this summer, being lead by his daughter, Tara Gresham.
