

Vernon Neale (Buck) Buchanan went to our Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Buck was born December 7, 1931 in Ava, Missouri to the late Rose and Lawrence Buchanan. He was raised in Smithton, Illinois and lived there until he joined the United States Air Force and moved to Texas. Here he met and married his sweetheart, Margie McBride. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
After his service in the Air Force, where he earned a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, he joined General Telephone Company (now Verizon) and enjoyed a lifelong career in Port Lavaca, Texas.
Upon retirement, Buck’s primary focus was caring for his beloved family. As time allowed, Buck enjoyed spending time with his extended family, golfing whenever possible and watching sports.
Married for almost 60 years, he is survived by his wife, Margie Buchanan, and surviving children (and spouse), Mike Buchanan, of Houston, and Becky Rollins (Dan) of Tupelo, Mississippi; grandchildren (and spouse), Joel Caylor (Amber) of Port Lavaca, Melissa Caylor of Houston, J D Rollins of Houston and Kristin Rollins of New York, New York; great-grandchildren, John and Emily Caylor of Port Lavaca and Tucker and Trever Caylor of Houston; and his sister Sandi Milligan of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Caylor; and his brother and sister, Burle Buchanan and Cathy Ragland.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Buck's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 5, 2014 at Six Mile Assembly of God Church, 6440 FM 1090 North, Port Lavaca, Texas 77979. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joel Caylor, Steve Cowey, Danny Estes, John Franck, J D Rollins, and Brent Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Key, Herman Morris and Charles Willoughby.
