It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Antonino Alastra, a devoted family man, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, at the age of 79, on September 8, 2024, in Port Orange, Florida. He was born in Castelluzzo, Sicily, on June 25, 1945, to Francesco and Giacoma Alastra. At 10 years old, he and his family emigrated to Detroit, Michigan, to begin a new life in America. He got his first job at 12 years old, selling newspaper subscriptions, so he could go to Washington D.C., and he never stopped working after that. He was a proud graduate of Patronage of St. Joseph High School. He joined the US Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972.
In his twenties, Tony built a remarkable career in real estate, opening and operating Alastra Real Estate, earning respect for his ingenuity, hard work, and mentorship. He was first introduced to the love of his life, Beatrice, by a mutual friend, in 1974. On that same day, he handed his friend a note and said open this a year from now, and the note said, “I’m going to marry that girl.” On May 24,1975, he married his queen, Beatrice, and he was her king. They had two beautiful daughters, and in 1982, they moved to Florida. He was an entrepreneur in the truest sense and built a successful company, Volusia Repairs & Construction, investing in real estate along the way. He was the hardest working man we have ever known, and he served as a mentor to so many.
Tony carried the warmth, values, and traditions of his homeland into everything he did. His life was defined by a deep love for his family, his kindness, and his dedication to those he held dear. Beyond his professional success, it was his role as the best husband, father, and nonno where he truly shined. His family was his greatest joy, and he instilled in them the importance of love, unity, and perseverance. His relationship with his wife was an example of how marriage should be, and he was incredibly proud of his daughters, who are infinitely grateful for his love and support. He was truly their hero.
He had a passion for travel and exploring the world and was famous for his “Tony Tours.” His grandkids refused to vacation without him. He also relished his weekly bocce games with his friends, which he, of course, preferred to win. He always kept a garden and loved to read. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He shared his love for fishing with his grandkids, and cherished every moment to spoil them.
He will be remembered for his unmatched energy, generosity, unwavering support for those around him, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. Tony leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Francesco and Giacoma Alastra. He is survived by his loving wife, Beatriz, his daughter, Jackie, his daughter, Anna, his son-in-law, Matt, his grandchildren, Ilaria, Anthony, Nino, and Francesco, his brother, Pete, and his brother and sisters-in-law, nephews, and cousins, who will all miss him dearly.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation and funeral service to honor his life at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home at 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL 32129 on Sunday, September 15th from 5- 7 PM.
