

Clyde Richard Johnson passed away Wednesday, January 20th, surrounded by his children and loved-ones.Clyde has been a resident of the greater Daytona Beach area for almost 30 years but was born in Duluth, Minnesota.He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Violet Johnson Thompson and leaves behind his 5 Children; Sandy Johnson Wilhelm, Scott Johnson, Todd Johnson, Stacey Mathews-Johnson, Katie (Mathews-Johnson) and husband, Charles Barrie; his two sisters: Fran (Larry) Greenfield and Ruthie Plys VanderLaan; as well as his ex-wife and friend, Mary Ann Mathews. Clyde is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Kyle (Alinda) Wilhelm, Brett Wilhelm, Brian (Angela) Wilhelm, Courtney (Ernie) Wilhelm Billittier, Payton Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Zachary Alkire, Tripp Barrie, Kennedy Barrie. As well as 3 great-grandchildren; Paige Wilhelm, Parker Wilhelm, Peyton Wilhelm.In his early years, Clyde was a star athlete in basketball, track and field and skiing. As a young adult, he was an active member in The Boy Scouts of America and the YMCA, helping launch and run numerous chapters throughout the country. He then graduated from George Williams University in Chicago and began a very successful insurance sales career.After serving in the Army at Fort Sam Houston and during the Berlin Crisis, Clyde focused his career in sales and eventually began a wholesale and retail company, Clyde R Johnson and Co. Though he and Mary Ann had many different retail stores, they eventually focused their efforts in the flea market circuit. Clyde was an active vendor of the Daytona Beach Flea Market for 26 years. One of his greatest joys in life was getting to know people at the market; he never met a stranger.He will be greatly missed but his family takes deep comfort knowing they will reunite again in Heaven one day.Visitation/Viewing will be held at Shannon Maloney Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 from 9:00am until 10:30am. A funeral service commemorating Clyde's life will begin immediately afterwards, starting at 10:30am. A private burial will take place at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL with military honors.
