Gwendolyn Starker, 90, of Edgewater, FL, went home to the Lord on January 6, 2014. She was born in Albany, NY to the late Claude and Mabel Llewellyn Hotaling, and was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Paul Starker. They moved to Edgewater 35 years ago after she retired from NY State Dept. of Transportation.
Gwen was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed the beauty of nature, played with the bell choir of her church, and earned a certificate from the Library of Congress for the book she transcribed into braille. She reveled in the accomplishments of her extended family and encouraged them all to give back to their communities.
Besides her husband who passed in 2001, she was predeceased by her son Donald Starker and her brother William G. Hotaling. She leaves to celebrate her life her sister Margaret Westervelt of Boca Raton, FL, her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Richard Wolfe of Troy, NY, her grandchildren Anginette Adams (Kim Taylor) of Edgewater, Tracey Bonanno, Krista Starker and Scott Starker of NY, as well as six grandchildren. She also leaves four step-grandchildren and their families from NY, her sisters-in-law Yvonne Hotaling of Wilton Manors, FL and Iva Veltman of Albany, NY and many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family thanks her caregivers Linda Walker, Samantha Mustacchio, her caregivers from Nurse-on-Call, and the staff of VITAS hospice for their most kind and compassionate care. We are most grateful.
The Celebration of Life Service is Wednesday, January 22, at 4:00 pm, at the United Church of Christ of New Smyrna Beach, FL, 203 Washington Street. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the United Church of Christ in Gwen’s name.
