Born on October 18, 1964, in Saranac Lake, New York, Jim was the son of Dawn Fletcher and James Amell. A proud and dedicated correctional officer, he served for over 25 years at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved the Adirondacks, hunting, fishing, and immersing himself in nature. He was also a lifelong New York Giants fan and a passionate NASCAR enthusiast—especially of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr. Later in life, Jim discovered a love for photography.
Those who knew Jim remember his humor, warmth, and unwavering loyalty. He was a devoted son, father, grandfather, partner, and friend—fiercely protective of those he loved. His passion, though intense at times, was a rare and powerful kind of love.
Jim is survived by his partner, Sharon; children, Troy and Morgan; stepchildren, Brittany, Sandra, Robert, and William; grandson, Carson; mother, Dawn; stepfather, Joe; brothers, BJ and Craig and sisters, Holly and Angela. He touched many lives, and his family is grateful to all who loved and supported him. He was greeted in Heaven by his brother, Matt Amell.
Jim gave everything—his strength, his laughter, his boundless love—and in return, he was fiercely loved by all who were lucky enough to be his. May you be reunited with everyone you loved who left too soon. Until we see each other again.
A Gathering of Friends and Family for James will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129, followed by a Celebration of Life/Funeral beginning promptly at 11:00 AM. A reception will immediately follow the service at the American Legion.
