Mom slipped away Thursday September 20th at 1:30 PM the timing took us by surprise, but the decline in the last six weeks was dramatic. She was born on February 1st 1921 in Manhattan in the City of New York. She was one of three sisters, and two brothers, Marie, Liberata (Billie), Anthony (Tony), William (Bill), Ann and finally Lucille. Depending on which documents the last name is Lucia Faggelo or Lucille Fagella, then Lucille Monroe and finally, Lucy Slegers.
She danced through life in New York and Europe as part of a USO Troupe, returning, she danced professionally throughout the northeast, also a dance teacher and choreographer for Catholic Parish annual fund raisers.
She was a victim of Alzheimer's disease, starting in 1993 it became noticeable, and she became frustrated knowing she would decline each year. In the end she lived in the moment, peaceful, with an easy smile, no past, but also no future. Sometime it's easier to remember the bad stuff, but when all is said and done, as a friend recently said, "life is not a dress rehearsal, it only goes around one time", make the most of it. This journey of life is a fleeting moment in the universe of time.
A memorial service will be celebrated 1:00 PM Monday September 24, 2012 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange. Chaplin Pam Stewart from Vitas Hospice will officiate.
