Marion was born in Brooklyn, NY, on August 14, 1930, and lived on Long Island in New Hyde Park and Merrick until moving to Florida in 1974. She worked for the City of Port Orange for 17 years, serving as City Clerk (with a stint as Acting City Manager) for 12 of those years, retiring in 1991. Marion continued to serve the community after retirement as a volunteer for the Port Orange Library. Marion had a strong sense of civic duty and continued to work for the elections even after retiring as City Clerk.
Marion was an avid reader and loved history, biographies, and murder mysteries. Being born during the depression, the 6th of 7 children, Marion had a strong work ethic and believed in the power of reading and education and learning new skills. Even in her senior years she kept abreast of new technology, adjusting with ease to her iPhone and iPad. Marion kept busy even in retirement. When not travelling to bluegrass festivals or fishing with her husband, retired Port Orange Chief of Police, David Solana, she baked cookies, knitted and read, visited her grandchildren in New York and was always ready to help anyone who was in need of help or support. With a passion for American History, she enjoyed visiting Gettysburg with her daughter, Virginia and husband, Cliff. Marion embodied kindness, humility, and grace in her life and with everyone she encountered.
Marion was pre-deceased by her husband, David Solana, and survived by her two children, Lorraine Zeller-Agostino (Christopher) and Virginia Quinn (Cliff); her two grandchildren, Jeremy and Chloe Agostino; sister-in-law, Maria Smith (wife of brother Chuck Smith), and many loving nieces and nephews.
