Nancy Westgate Emerson, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on January 14, 1951, Nancy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a zest for life.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Eliza and Milton Westgate, and her infant daughter, Katherine. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Donal Emerson; her cherished sons, John (Emily) and Andrew (Susan); her beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Anna, Nora, Eliza, and Eleanor; and her dear sister, Janet Maiale.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Nancy cherished her family above all else. She found immense joy in their successes and happiness, always offering unwavering support and encouragement.
A spirited competitor throughout her life, Nancy excelled in sports, playing field hockey and basketball during her college years and enjoying skiing. Her passion for competition extended beyond the field, as she became a lifelong enthusiast of card games. Her love for cards began in high school, where she played daily with her grandfather. This passion continued throughout her life, as she played bridge, mahjong, rummikub, and many other games with friends and family.
Early in life, Nancy struggled with dyslexia, prompting her choice of profession as a devoted educator, first running a day care, then in the classroom as an elementary school teacher, and finally earning her masters degree in education with a specialty in reading, allowed her to serve as a reading specialist.
Nancy's legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy. Her family and friends will remember her for her competitive spirit, her dedication to her loved ones, and her unwavering enthusiasm for life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
