Nancy P. Musselwhite, age 79, of South Daytona died on July 1, 2017 of pancreatic cancer. A native of Vermont, she grew up in a small village where she graduated high school in 1956. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1959 with a degree in Elementary Education. She immediately entered activity duty in the U.S. Army, which was the beginning of her career. In 1969 she received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Southern California. She also graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College. She finished her military career as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1986.
In 1963, Nancy met the love of her life, James Musselwhite in Nuremburg Germany. They married and had a forty nine year love affair. Nancy never really recovered from the loss of her dear James. They also were extremely proud of their two children who made life worthwhile.
While in the Army, James and Nancy travelled extensively but not nearly as much as they did after they retired. They were “always going” somewhere in the world, visiting more than thirty countries over the years. Nancy was also very interested in genealogy and spent a great amount of time researching her family back to the 1500’s and 1600’s in England, France, and New York state. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was an active member at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Daytona Beach. It was a wonderful life.
Survivors include their two children – Jamie Elizabeth Musselwhite and James Edward Musselwhite, both of Port Orange, and her sister Jane Parot.
Funeral services will be held on July 15th 2017 at 1p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Daytona Beach. Burial next to her husband will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at 12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa FL 33612-9411 or to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 216 Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach FL 32114. Arrangements entrusted to Shannon Maloney Funeral Home, (386) 760-9660.
