Paulette L. Cappello, a fierce and loving woman, passed away the evening of April 12, 2023 after a battle with cancer. Born in Granite City, IL, Paulette was the daughter of Jack and Irene (nee Schwartz) Novak. Moving to New Jersey as a young girl, she grew up in the area and met her husband of 35 years, Richard J. Cappello.
Paulette always put her heart into everything she did, from her work as a secretary and office manager throughout the years to her hobbies and family. She was adventurous, had a sense of humor, and enjoyed celebrating holidays with her loved ones, often twice over – with both the Jewish traditions she grew up a part of, and the Catholic ones she married into. While not a material person, she often joked about having the opportunity for double the gifts – but it was really the joy surrounding the gatherings she enjoyed most, although her Lenox collection may lead one to think otherwise. From New Jersey, Paulette and Richard moved to Maryland for almost twenty years. Having retired and grown tired of the cold winters, Richard and Paulette moved to Florida four years ago, where she fully embraced a love of the beach and ocean, a love that was planted by growing up on the Jersey shore. Supportive of her family, and often interested in the things they enjoyed, Paulette developed a fondness for horses, cars (especially Corvettes), and listening to the laughter of her daughter and two young granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Paulette is survived by her mother, Irene Schiff, brother Mark Schiff, daughter Amanda Cappello, granddaughters Isabella and Olivia, and a host of relatives and close friends. A Memorial Service honoring Paulette’s life and legacy will be held at a later date in Port Orange.
