

The Rev. Philip V. Mortensen, 72 of Port Orange, FL, passed away on April 3, 2017. He was born February 14, 1945 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. His parents were the Rev. David Mortensen and Muriel Powell Mortensen.
Pastor Phil spent four decades ministering to and empowering the poor in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a graduate of Fort Wayne Bible College. He received his master’s degree in Christian Ministry from Huntington College in 1989. He pastored Fellowship Bible Church in Ft. Wayne from 1972 to 1985. He was the founding pastor of Love Church of Ft. Wayne, where he ministered to the poor and needy from 1986 until 2011. Over 100 churches in the Midwest have supported his work with their time, talents, and finances; supporting his strong belief that there is but ONE church in Jesus Christ.
Pastor Phil authored two books: For God So Loved the Inner-City, and a devotional, Quiet Time Questions With Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, his son, Michael Mortensen (Christine), and his daughter, Mary Ann Goodwell (Andre), 6 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, all of Ft. Wayne, IN. He is also survived by stepchildren: David Hollingsworth, Hanover, MD; Jim Hollingsworth (Kristie), Grand Rapids, MI; Amy Hollingsworth Hayter (Mike), Dacula, GA; Lee Hollingsworth (Stacie) Loganville, GA,10 step grandchildren and Brother, David Mortensen (Morgan), Madison, Wisconsin and sister, Mari Mortensen, Forest Park, Illinois.
Fran Mortensen, his first wife died in 2008 and grandchild Jonathan Mortensen died in 2016.
There will be a Memorial Service held on April 13th at South Daytona Christian Church, 2121 Kenilworth Ave. at 2 PM, followed by a reception to greet the family in the Fellowship Hall immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be sent to the Mortensen Memorial Fund of Love Church, 1331 E. Berry, Ft. Wayne, IN 46803.
