

Richard Elsworth Shook of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021, at the age of 91. Richard, but known to his family and friends as “Dick”, was born September 1, 1929 and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, to parents William and Ola (Chambers) Shook.
After graduating from University High School in Bloomington, Indiana, he went on to attend Indiana University and later Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. During his high school years, Dick played 4 years of varsity sports lettering in basketball, football and track.
Dick joined the Air Force Reserve in July of 1947 and received awards for his active duty service during the Berlin Crisis. He retired after an amazing 42 years of service in September of 1989. During his time in the military, he had the opportunity to visit England, Italy, Norway and Greenland which he thoroughly enjoyed and treasured.
Dick was a private pilot and member of AOPA with a passion and love of aviation and had the pleasure of owning several planes. He was also very active in the Nazarene church as a Sunday school teacher and volunteered in many capacities in the church during his lifetime.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, Illinois and worked there as an automation millwright from 1964 and retired in 1991.
As a loving and devoted husband to Shirley Shook of 70 years, he will be missed by many to include his son, Richard W.C. Shook and his wife Patricia; his daughter, Rebecca Shook; grandchildren, Brian Shook, Andrew Shook and his wife Alexandrea.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, William and Ola; his older brother, William (Bill) Shook, and his twin brother Robert (Bob) Shook.
Services will be held Friday, August 6, 2021, at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida. Visitation will be from 12pm-1pm, followed by a memorial service at 1pm. From there they will proceed to Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery for an honor guard burial.
